What changes in a relocation chart?

A relocation chart considers your original birth moment at a different geographical location. It is an astrological way to explore a change of place, rather than a new birth chart for the date you move.

What stays the same, and what changes?

Stays the same
The birth instant and, in the usual geocentric calculation, the planets’ zodiac positions.
Changes with the place
The local horizon, chart angles and house arrangement.

See Astrodienst’s relocation astrology reference.

Compare locations using the same birth details.

Green line: the horizonA reference for looking around from one place. E, S, W and N mark east, south, west and north.

Red h: altitudeThis marks Sirius’s angle above the horizon. Az measures direction along it; this particular diagram starts at south.

A different place, a different viewpointA relocation chart keeps the birth instant and uses the new location’s horizon and meridian to determine the angles and houses.

How can two clock readings describe the same instant?

For example, 00:00 UTC and 08:00 at UTC+8 can describe the same instant. Reusing the same clock reading in another time zone would describe a different moment. A relocation calculation needs the instant held fixed.

Two labels worth knowing: ASC and MC

ASC · Ascendant
The eastern intersection of the horizon and ecliptic.
MC · Midheaven
The upper intersection of the local meridian and ecliptic.

These are chart points. Astrology often connects ASC with how you meet the world and MC with public roles or vocation.

Is this the same as astrocartography?

Relocation chart
A complete chart for one geographical location.
Astrocartography
A map of lines showing where planets were angular at the birth instant.

A Sun–MC line, for instance, marks places where the Sun was on the Midheaven at the birth instant. It traces the same planetary relationship across a series of locations.

City in Meet G lets you turn a globe and explore a relocation chart for another city. You can explore the chart for one place before looking at another.

Why an accurate birth time matters

The comparison depends on the angles and houses, which are sensitive to birth time. If that time is uncertain, do not treat small differences between city interpretations as precise findings.

For example, before comparing two destinations, check that both charts use the same verified birth details. A changed birth-time entry would make it difficult to tell whether a difference came from the city or from the input.

How to keep a comparison useful

In City, compare one place you know with one you are curious about. Note themes you want to explore further. The birth chart basics guide explains unfamiliar terms.

If you are thinking about a move, set those notes alongside your plans for work, housing and relationships. A theme that catches your attention can become something to explore on a visit or discuss with someone who lives there. In Meet G, City sits alongside your birth chart and tarot readings, so you can keep exploring the questions that matter to you.
